Fire Front
Wildfires are becoming more severe and destructive. Besides in ground early detection systems, remote sensing technology has been proved to be useful to help decision makers in a prevention, early warning, and burn severity mapping and helping to reduce economical losses. In the specific Remote sensing from space provides valuable ationable information for rapid response on large scale. Active fire detection from space traditionally makes use of sensors operating in the Middle Infrared (MIR) between 3 and 5 μm and Thermal Infrared (TIR) between (8–12 μm) as these two are not influenced (Kaufman et al., 1990) by reflectance component. However, new hyperspectral sensors recently launched (i.e. PRISMA, EnMap) offer the opportunity to provide information complementary to other satellite data and inprove the characterization of wildfire not only for prevention and post fire assessment but also during the active phase.
