Events

Renewing and implementing the monitoring network for a positive impact on society, both present and future. This is the focus of the project, coordinated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and funded by the PNRR, which will be the focus of the infoday on September 30th.

On Tuesday, September 30th, the Bari Chamber of Commerce will host a day entirely dedicated to the "Monitoring Earth's Evolution and Tectonics" (MEET) project, coordinated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and funded by the PNRR.

From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, meetings, debates, and roundtable discussions will be held with public and private representatives, aimed at presenting the innovations adopted for an increasingly forward-looking Earth Science. During the infoday, the project's results will be presented and the potential for the positive impact of geoscientific innovation on the development of a society capable of engaging new generations, understanding the Earth's profound dynamics, and increasingly managing natural risks will be discussed.

Many events are scheduled throughout the day, including the presentation of two new open data portals, the "Italian Platform for Solid Earth Science" (IPSES) and the "Platform for Earth Observation from Space" (PEOS), and three roundtables focusing on data, HPC and connectivity, Earth monitoring from space, and the role of research infrastructures in the risk society.

An exhibition area will also be set up dedicated to the Project's four themes: "The Earth from the Earth," featuring new sensors from major national networks (National Integrated GNSS Network, National Seismic Network, Hydrogeochemical Network), new instruments on Italian volcanoes, and the development of the natural laboratories of Irpinia, the Strait of Messina, Gargano, and the former Sos Enattos mines in Sardinia; "The Earth from the Sea," featuring two major scientific initiatives in complex environments: the installation of the DART system in the Ionian Sea for tsunami studies and the Campi Flegrei Marine Observatory; "Earth from Space" with the Multiparametric Platform for Earth Observations from Space and "Sharing Minds for the Future" with opportunities for young researchers with physical and virtual access, both nationally and transnationally, to the Network of Integrated Laboratories for Geosciences and the Environment and the study opportunities offered by the Department of Earth and Geoenvironmental Sciences at the University of Bari.

The event also featured an aurora borealis simulator and a cinema space with documentaries produced by the Project, which, through sound, images, and interviews, tell the fascinating stories of daily geoscience research.
